Hugo Carriò is an acclaimed conductor and music director with over 15 years of international experience leading orchestras and shaping music education across Latin America and Europe. Recognized for both his artistic excellence and social impact, he was awarded the prestigious Cross of the Order of Civil Merit by King Felipe VI of Spain.
His conducting journey includes leadership roles with distinguished institutions such as Sinfonía por el Perú, founded by tenor Juan Diego Flórez, and El Sistema in Venezuela. As Artistic Director of Sinfonía por el Perú, Hugo oversaw the musical development of thousands of young musicians, leading the Youth Orchestra in major debuts at the Lucerne Festival and Salzburg.
He has served as Principal Conductor of orchestras in Peru, Spain, and Venezuela, including the Ataúlfo Argenta Youth Orchestra and the Guárico State Symphony Orchestra. As a guest conductor, he has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as the Santiago de Chile Orchestra, the Ecuador National Symphony, and the Oviedo Philharmonic, often alongside Juan Diego Flórez.
His operatic and theatrical work spans performances of La Traviata, Tosca, Il viaggio a Reims, and The Little Prince, across prestigious stages like the National Theater of Lima and the Rossini Opera Festival.
Hugo Carriò studied orchestral conducting at the Simón Bolívar University in Venezuela and the Madrid Royal Conservatory, and piano and chamber music at the Oviedo Conservatory in Spain.
